You finally decided to try out jiu jitsu as a new hobby. You decided to take you first class. you're a little....scratch that, very nervous because you don't know anyone so you sit in silence till the class starts. The instructor made you feel welcome who became your first friend on the mat.
After partnering up with someone to do drills, it is now time to roll. You, as maybe a former athlete of some other sport want to try your best. you exert yourself, try as hard as you can which you should. But with that comes intensity and unnecessary effort, at least in your first class.
You're trying to pass guard aka trying to pass someone's legs. Since you don't have the skills to do so you, use brute force and end up jumping on top of someone with all your weight. In that process you end up elbowing them in the face. This is why people hate rolling with white belts.
Pro Tip: Breath. Have fun, stay relaxed, and go with the flow. There are no medals to be won. Don't try to impress anyone by showing them how much of try hard you are and learn. People will guide you along the way. Make friends.
